🗺 The 4 selection rounds

Knowing the road ahead removes 80% of the anxiety. Here's what each round actually looks like.

Round 1

Preliminary Screening & Documentation

Height + appearance check, document verification (10+2 / graduation, passport, ID), and a brief self-introduction. Eliminatory — those who do not meet visual/physical standards are filtered here.

💡 TipArrive in formal Western business attire (knee-length skirt or trousers, half-sleeve shirt, blazer optional, skin-coloured stockings, closed black heels, neat bun). Carry originals + two sets of photocopies of every document.
Round 2

Group Discussion

A 5–8 person group discusses a current-affairs or hospitality-themed topic for 8–10 minutes. Recruiters assess clarity of thought, listening, and ability to lead without dominating.

💡 TipSpeak twice with substance, not five times with noise. Acknowledge another candidate's point before adding yours. Never interrupt. Aim to be the calm voice that summarises the group's direction near the end.
Round 3

Personal Interview (HR + Behavioural)

One-on-one or panel interview covering "Tell me about yourself", motivation ("Why Air India?"), behavioural scenarios (difficult passenger, team conflict), and aviation general awareness.

💡 TipUse STAR (Situation → Task → Action → Result) for every behavioural answer. Prepare three stories in advance: one customer-service win, one team-conflict resolution, one personal challenge overcome.
Round 4

Final Round (Senior Panel / Medical)

Senior panel interview + medical evaluation (vision, hearing, general fitness, dental check). The senior round focuses on poise under pressure and cultural fit with the Tata service legacy.

💡 TipFor the medical: prepare basic fitness in advance and ensure dental work is complete. For the panel: speak slowly, hold eye contact with the speaker, and project warmth in every answer.

🎤 Brand questions they always ask

These aren't trivia — they test whether you understand Air India's culture and whether you're a genuine fit. Have answers ready, not scripted.

"What do you know about Air India's transformation under the Tata Group?"

What they're testingWhether you have followed Air India's post-2022 rebranding journey and understand the premium service direction.
How to structure your answerMention the Tata acquisition (2022), the new livery and uniforms, the Vistara merger (2024), fleet renewal (777X, A350, 787s), and tie it to YOUR excitement about being part of this transformation.

"Why Air India over IndiGo or other carriers?"

What they're testingGenuine research and aligned motivation — not a spray-and-pray application.
How to structure your answerCite something specific: international network, full-service product, premium-cabin focus, or the Tata legacy of trusted service. Connect it to your own values (e.g. "I want to serve passengers on long-haul international routes, not just domestic shuttles").

"Air India is famous for its Maharaja mascot. What does the Maharaja symbolise to you?"

What they're testingBrand heritage awareness + ability to articulate service values.
How to structure your answerWarmth, hospitality, "guest is god" service philosophy, and India's welcoming spirit on the global stage. Add one sentence about how YOU embody this in your own way.

"What is the Air India Sky service philosophy?"

What they're testingWhether you have actually researched the airline's current service positioning.
How to structure your answerReference the renewed focus on Indian hospitality with global polish. Mention one tangible service touch (e.g. revamped menus, new uniforms, refreshed cabin standards) and what it signals about Air India's direction.

🗣 JAM topics to practice

Speak continuously for 60 seconds — no long pauses. Practice these exact topics. Structure: strong open → two points → clean close.

  • India's growing role in global aviation
  • A memorable customer-service experience I had as a passenger
  • What hospitality means in 2026
  • "International travel: luxury or necessity?"
  • A senior figure from Indian aviation I admire
  • Why teamwork matters more in a cabin than in an office

🏆 The winning strategy

What separates shortlisted candidates from the rest isn't talent — it's preparation density.

  1. Air India recruits for a PREMIUM full-service product. Polish matters more than at LCCs — invest in well-fitted formals, proper grooming, and a steady, warm demeanour.
  2. Research the Tata transformation story. The new Air India is consciously distinct from the pre-2022 era — they want crew who chose the NEW Air India, not legacy nostalgia.
  3. Prepare for international service questions. Air India operates long-haul, so expect scenarios about jet lag, language barriers, premium-cabin etiquette, and longer service cycles.
  4. Brush up on the Vistara merger. Many ex-Vistara staff are part of the unified Air India workforce now — knowing this context shows you have followed the airline carefully.
  5. For grooming: study the new Air India uniform aesthetic — earthy tones, structured silhouette, signature bindi (for female crew). Match that polish in your interview attire.
  6. Carry a current Indian passport to every interview round, even if not asked. International operations make passport readiness a recruitment signal.
